When There’s More Than You Can Handle
Have you ever been at a place in your life where you thought life finally would slow down so you could get a break?
Maybe you had come through some very hard times, having to make tough decisions and handle things that didn’t come easily for you. With those issues finally behind you, you thought, “Whew, now I can rest a bit!”…only to get smacked in the face with not just one difficult situation, but several!
At such times, I tell the Lord, “You told me You wouldn’t give me more than I could handle. Well, I already felt like I had more than I could handle about three difficult situations ago.”
Then I usually break down and cry awhile before asking Him, “I don’t know what to do…how can I even begin to handle this new challenge?”
Just when I think I’m going to totally lose it, the Lord speaks in His still, small voice, and right then I have a choice. I can either run away from Him and try to ignore His voice, or I can choose to draw close to Him so I don’t miss one word that He wants to share with me.
Don’t Run…Choose God’s Presence!
When I decide to choose God, I am ALWAYS rewarded with the promises of His Word. He reminds me that…
- He will never leave me (Hebrews 13:5).
- He works all things together for my good (Romans 8:28).
- I need to keep my eyes on Him in every situation (Psalm 123:1-2).
I’ve discovered that when I listen to God’s voice and read His Word, my eyes are turned away from my circumstances and onto Him—my source of “perfect peace” (Isaiah 26:3). When I choose to obey Him, His amazing peace calms all my anxious thoughts (Philippians 4:6-7).
When I look into Jesus’ eyes, I’m overwhelmed by His love for me. I start praising His name and telling Him how much I love Him. As I worship, He reminds me again that He’s in control and will walk with me every step of the way, through every difficult situation.
