God's Appointed Time
3/7/2010
"Then the LORD took note of Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had promised. So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him."  - Genesis 21:1-2 NASB
There are moments when everything changes-when the tide is turned. These often are called "tipping points," when the balance suddenly tips one way or another.
In a recent book about these points, Malcolm Gladwell recounts how sales of a well-known brand of shoes had plummeted dramatically. The manufacturer was ready to give up and shut down production. "But then, something strange happened," he writes. Unplanned, and without any major campaign, people began wearing these shoes even though they were "out of fashion." They were worn by influential executives, celebrities, and models in photo shoots. The word about the shoes spread, and they kept selling.
Within just a year, sales had increased by more than 1,000%. Somehow, at a time when there seemed to be no hope, this "failure" became a huge success.
Great turning points like this can come unexpectedly into our lives-out of the blue. In fact, God specializes in these kinds of miraculous turnarounds.
We see one of these miracles when Abraham and Sarah were childless in their old age, without hope of an heir. Then God said they would have a son-something that seemed impossible, since Sarah was past the age of childbearing. Yet the miracle took place, and "at the appointed time" the child was born.
Today, remember that God can turn around any situation...for you. He has not forgotten you. He hears your prayers and has an appointed time when your prayers will be answered.
Stay faithful with the time, talent, and treasure you've been given. Don't be discouraged or give up hope. Trust Him for your turnaround!
Prayer
