Miraculous Deliverance
3/1/2010
"They called these days Purim after the name of Pur...the Jews established and made a custom for themselves and for their descendants and for all those who allied themselves with them, so that they would not fail to celebrate these two days according to their regulation and according to their appointed time annually." - Esther 9:26-27 NASB
Hope was lost. No appeal seemed possible. Every Jew in Persia knew they had been condemned, and the date set for their execution approached. But then a miracle took place.
A Jewish woman, Esther, had become the king's bride, putting her in a position to influence the king. She was there as her uncle, Mordecai, rose to prominence. She helped reveal the true motives of Haman and his evil plot to get rid of the Jews. She was there as Haman was hanged on the gallows he'd built for Mordecai...and as the Jews were delivered.
This was such a miracle that, for more than 2,000 years, Jews worldwide have paused to remember their deliverance. This celebration, called "Purim," began yesterday, the last day of February. But since the Jews celebrated an extra day in Persia, the celebration continues a second day, today, which is called "Shushan Purim."
Purim reminds us of God's protection. Psalm 107, for example, describes that when His people cried out to Him during difficult times: "He delivered them out of their distresses...He...delivered them from their destructions."
Today, the same God who delivered the Jews in Persia is by your side, ready to deliver you from the trials you face. He can perform miracles to meet your needs. He can solve problems that don't seem to have solutions.
Cry out to God and seek His help. Remember all the ways He has helped you in the past. He is faithful, and His promises still are true. You may have troubles, but victory is yours through Jesus Christ!
